I just came back from Tenn and the Smokies, the locals like to poke fun at the Hillbilly meme, and I amazed at how friendly everyone is, even compared to "nice" Wisconsin. Met one guy who run his own still, and relayed how grandpappy spent 12 years in the federal pen for illegal moonshine back in the day. Anyhow...like "cheesehead" (which incidentally and amazingly but true, I coined that term in 1985/86 somewhere in that winter), I don't think Hillbilly is a negative and maybe even a proud talking point. Pounded quite a bit of shine with some Hillbillys, it was fun.

my sinkhole blog you will get lots on why this is worrisome.

I cringe at vocabulary that debases energy producing southern states since I grew up in a wintry climate of Illinois kept alive all winter long by these exploited hard working people who are left abandoned on the side of the road today.
States like Louisiana and Tenn. etc provide the affluent north with the power to get through each winter without freezing.

As my blog points out, it takes one catastrophe to the pipelines from the Miss. delta to change all that.
