Utter insanity. The experts on nuclear power in the goverment regulatory agencies and industry should be the ones telling us what is and is not safe, because they are supposed to be working for us! Instead, in our bizarro world, ignorant uneducated people such as myself (speaking for myself) must apply "public pressure" to get our govenment regulatory agencies to understand that they are abject failures at protecting the public. As if we could tell them anything they didn't already know? Although they are the ones with legions of experts with college degrees and technical knowledge, we the unwashed masses are the ones who have to apply "public pressure" to get them to do the right thing? So the threat of nuclear holocaust caused by corporate greed run amok isn't enough to get the nuclear regulators and corporations to make good decisions-- they need to feel public pressure before they will feel compelled to lift a finger in any useful way?

I'm not against applying "public pressure", but I'm just lamenting that it has come to this. Of all the people in the world, non-experts should not have to point out what ought to be obvious to any sane human being with knowledge of the nuclear power industry, let alone an "expert" who works in the industry or overseeing it.
