stock here, I have never noticed an earthquake directly on Hilo, although they are not super rare, but usually they are in the ocean realm. There was a 3.0 in Hilo “proper”. On my Volcano visit last week, I was shocked at the amount of traffic in Hilo. I’ll throw up a few pictures in a new article.
Also noted that Lo’ihi (submerged volcano, and likely to become the next Hawaiian island, has been active. It is a long shaped volcano, suggesting that the speed of movement of the “hot spot” has accelerated. Most people assume that the “hot spot” is a stationary spot, and the land moves over it. I think this assumption is horribly misguided, and the the spot moves more than the land. Lo’ihi just took a 3.7. Bathymetry at bottom.
