We went to the Point Mugu Naval Air Station annual Air Show several times.
Blue Angels, the Super Guppy transport for Saturn-5 rocket sections, the latest Bell Helicopter, etc. in 1971, our
Pop Warner midgets played the Channel Islands team on base, only less than a quarter mile from where they were practicing touch-and-go with F-4 Phantom jets. Pretty impressive afterburners! I hitched a plane ride from Watsonville to Eugene a couple days after Mountain Saint Helens blew up.
That was from the Fly-In at Watsonville.
When we got to Eugene, I carried my pack towards the terminal, and a fire-crew was loading onto a transport and I could have faked my way onto that plane, but I really wasn’t in shape.
