You don’t understand that non-citizens don’t have the right to be here and can — and should — be sent packing for whatever reason the American people, acting through their government, want. Being expelled is not a criminal punishment. They are not being fined, put in jail, or otherwise punished. Sending someone home is not punishment. Don’t you have the right to expel a guest from your home for whatever reason you want? Thus, non-citizens can continue to have 1st Amendment rights under the US Constitution back home. They can write letters, books, and post comments on X and ZH in their home country for consumption here. We may tolerate their speech and presence here, but we don’t have to. You don’t like what the government is doing to aliens on US soil? You have plenty of options other than bitching in the ZH comments section about expelling annoying foreign assholes. To extend my analogy about one’s home: Call me names in my house, I’ll kick you out and the government will not bat an eye. Do that out on the street, and there is nothing I can legally do about it.
