John Lee Ratcliffe, born on October 20, 1965, in Mount Prospect, Illinois, is an American politician and attorney known for his significant roles in national security and intelligence. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame in 1987 and a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University in 1989. Early in his career, Ratcliffe served as the Mayor of Heath, Texas, from 2004 to 2012, and later represented Texas’s 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2015 to 2020. He was appointed as the 6th Director of National Intelligence (DNI) from 2020 to 2021 and, as of January 2025, serves as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
