The countries with significant negative growth in consumption all have the sense that they need to prepare for a "rainy day" or disaster any damn minute now.  And they are right:

Britain knows that the political order has been hijacked by EU fanatics in coalition with Islamists.  Things are definitely unstable.

Australia has a Prime Minister who wants to put people in jail for 5 years if they offend Muslims or Communist on-line.  In other words, Australia seems to have a partial loss of Western Leadership and that freaks people out. Shotguns are still legal?  If so, buy them and store ammunition.  Or store a bug-out bag.

Canada is looking at a Communist/Muslim appeasing Prime Minister who does not have the ability to understand the Canadian - USA relationship vis-a-vis trade nor does he see how vulnerable Canada is to mass Muslim migration and Jihadism.   Rather than drink, smarter Canadians prefer to stock pile disaster rations.
