Many of these types are sociopaths, which is a whole topic onto itself, of which I have several articles on the blog. These are some of the most dangerous people on the planet. Bottom line, they have no conscience, and power and manipulation over other people are very important to them. Sociopaths will take unnecessary risks that are way out of proportion to the possible gain, especially when the risks can be primarily foisted onto other people.
Which brings us to our point. Nuclear energy has so clearly failed at every level, but in a sales pitch it still looks like "a free lunch" to those driven by greed and power.
There are a few categories of people who are still motivated for nuclear, still fooled by nuclear power, to name a few:
1) The stupid who think they are smart (say readers of Popular Science, ruh roh, I used to be one)The failures and dangers of nuclear are so obvious, so clear-cut, that rather than belabor them here, I simply refer you to this entire blog ---Nukepro
2) The uninformed
3) The "true believers", perhaps smart people, Blinded By Science.
4) Profiteers of the Nuclear Industrial Complex /Cartel
So, per the below, clearly the EU is not driven by altruistic motives in pushing for nuclear. Europe is the worst place in the world for nuclear, nuclear disposal, and a nuclear reactor. Not that there is a good place for any of that, just that is it the height on insanity to load Europe with nuclear.

Citing a strategy paper from the EU on Tuesday, "Spiegel Online" reported that the European Union plans to defend its technological dominance in the nuclear sector.
According to the document, the European Union's 28 member states should strengthen cooperation on researching, developing, financing and constructing innovative reactors.
The paper is reportedly the basis for the European Commission's future nuclear policy and is expected to be passed by the European commissioner for energy union on Wednesday. The report would then be presented to the European Parliament.
Germany doesn't count. They are co-opted by the Green Party and other Socialists. You are not factoring new technology innovation. We don't fly in biplanes or drive Model As. Technology evolves. Used fuel recycle is going to be part of the equation without increasing proliferation risk. It's a fact that that actinides burned up in reactors are destroyed forever. Its worth more as fuel than waste. So why would anyone want to to bury "gold"?

This is an illogical clause, when you analyze that you in actuality are NOT helping the planet but treating it like a garbage dump for the next 200,000 years to come. Get over your fallacy that you are helping this planet.
You have no plan that works from A to Z with any confidence that your new technology will even work as planned. Your science told us when the first NPP was built that they are safer than anything on earth. Self contained, won't leak anything nuclear into the environment and now we all know that's not true.
You science brought us Hanford, Fukushima, Chernobyl, the instant death of 80,000 souls in Japan, and the legacy of "nuclear waste". Your science, brought radiation to every kitchen table on planet earth.
Your science treats the most deadly substances known and created by man like an out house. Just dig a hole and when it gets full or is so vile and toxic, that you move the outhouse and put a little dirt on top of the waste and tell the world that no radiation will escape and begin the process all over. Where is the solution to your sciences pollution? You don't have one, period.
Nuclear Science is a failed science. With limited applications there is no need to go forward with this science any more, in any way, shape or form.
Remember that we are only trying to boil water.
You call it garbage because you don't understand the underlying physics. The stuff is fissionable. That means you can derive an energy content from it all the way to Curium. The IFR was the workable plan, killed over politics and some think tankers misleading Clinton it was proliferation, which its not. Yet you didn't know that. I know more about the value of actinides as energy content vs putting it in the ground. I've spent a career studying it. Antinukes such as yourself don't know the physics of fission across all the actinides. Thus you are constrained by your own bias and propaganda.

Thinking that some new "safer" nuke reactor design will somehow spare Earth and all it's life forms from the horrors of radioactive death and disease is purified delusion.
