presented as just a "journalist" was a scam out of the gate.    The owned media is scared that something may befall them, so pinning a murder as an act "against free speech, attacks on journalists" fit their narrative.

They were immediately put out of reach by Turkish security services, so they did not show the collusion between Khashoggi, Qatar, and Turkey prior to his death.
