I suppose they need to get further away from the truth.   The truth is that 99.9% of all "mutations" do not help the organism involved.

Has any prior virus mutated in such ways that different variants were discovered and detectable?   

No.   The bullshit continues.  The blind believers now pick up the lingo about the variants and forms, and the CDC pushes bullshit, using speakers with a "country" accent to try to appeal to "Trumps base" and to keep up the masks and social distancing, and pure stupidity and fear.
