Solar Storm -- Coming Soon, Carrington

Right now on Space Weather Dot Com,  A Class 3 Flare from a Sunspot, Erupting into a Magnetic Storm  that will hit Earth.

http://spaceweather.com/

One day, one of these will be a "direct hit" on earth and will cause massive electrical interruption, similar to the Carrington Event of the in which damage was done even though there were hardly and wires or pipelines at the time.

 http://nukepimp.blogspot.com/p/astronomy-and-carrington.html

That will knock out power and transformers, it could be extensive.   Power outages could be widespread and longlasting, because sure the industry has 100 large transformers that can be rapidly finished in production (as long as the manufacturing plant has electrical backup --hmmm---I wonder how many do), but not 10,000.    Outages could last years.

Of course, we can rest assured that the NRC (USA Nuclear Regulatory Commission) is 'investigating' increasing the battery backup for Nuke plants to go from 4 hours to 8 hours.   And y'all know what happens when nuke plants lose power, and their reactors and emergency systems (that in reality are never tested in a FULL DRESS REHEARSAL) create a meltdown.

And y'all know what happens to those HUNDREDs of re-engineered, re-packed, spent fuel pools with the plutonium laden rods which REQUIRE cooling and pumping of treated cooling water continously.   Well they go in in a nuclear reaction, creating a fire, and possibly explosions of the most dangerous stuff on earth.    But REST ASSURED, the NRC got you covered with their new "8 hour rule", even though this Carrington outage might last years....with 400 spent fuel pool on fire and exploding plutonium throughout the US and the world.

We can't fix all this in a year or two.    But we have to start now.   We are living on borrowed time.   An outside observer, a space alien perhaps, would laugh in a macabre way about the way we are killing ourselves to live "the good life" with plentiful power, putting our entire planet, our genetic heritage, our DNA, our very existence, at risk.

How Many Nuclear Engineers Needed to Change a Light Bulb

Apparently Changing a Light Bulb can almost lead to a melt down.....

Palisades nuclear plant accident investigated

It began with a light bulb.
Trying to fix a burned-out light bulb on an indicator button led to a serious incident that left the Palisades nuclear plant on Lake Michigan without half its electrical power on Sept. 25, 2011. A piece of equipment slipped while a worker was troubleshooting on a live electrical panel, causing an arc of electricity and a loss of half the indicators in the room that controls the reactor. Signals went haywire for a while. The plant shut down.

Plant in Kansas Shut Down KEEP EM DOWN

http://www.kwch.com/news/kwch-news-ccd-report-2010-incident-at-wolf-creek-nuclear-plant-20110317,0,32902.story

The plant owners failed to address known problems, and these problems did in fact play out and cause a plant shutdown.

Greed, Ignorance, Denial.     Occasional human attributes do not mix with nuke.    Nature and Acts of god do not mix with nuke.     Earth does not mix with nuke.

Fuel Rods in the Rubble

Exposing Some of the "Big Lies"

Plutonium Fuel Rods laying in the rubble!

Caught this from a TEPCO released sampling video. Raw Uranium Pellets just lying in the rubble, very clear cut. Maybe MOX too. Maybe some experimental fuels too. Very odd stuff these rods in the rubble.

You just have to wonder if they weren't doing some type of research at Fukushima, and of course this type of thing wouldn't be publicized.

Here is a link just found December 2011, which shows fuel pellets made in France that look exactly like those shown in the video. Also keep in mind that the "official news" reported fuel pellets found over 2 miles from the plants.

What should the average person be doing now for basic protection

The biggest thing is “internal emitters” once you get a Hot Particle in your body, it is way way more dangerous than just walking by a radioactive zone.

Those internal emitters can stay for quite awhile and blast away at the particular cells they are next too.  This continued bludgeoning of nearby cells can create a double double strand break and when they recombine they can recombine wrong, and be a start of cancer.

Rain brings radiation down, for sure

1)      Minimize activity in the rain, wear a poncho

2)      Run 2 or 3 HEPA filters in your house, best to throw away the filter, but you can blow it off but that re-releases particles to your neighborhood.  You should be doing this anyway, but do it more now, run them 24/7

3)      Take anti-oxidants, they get rid of free radicals which is one of the things caused by radiation.  Vitamin C and E are common and cheap.   You should be doing this anyway

4)      Run a charcoal filter (at least) for your drinking water, really consider doing an RO system, it doesn’t have to be for whole house, just your drinking water supply, even for the shower is not really needed unless for some reason you know that you got really bad water.   You should be doing this anyway.

5)      When you hear any Corporate Troll or Gov official stating “There is no immediate danger” put your ears up like a German Shepherd and listen hard to what they are not saying or what they are trying to avoid saying.   Go visit some tin-foil hat blogs like this one….they got some crazies (sorry its true) but also some really info, and the third one, an ex-nuke guy.  You should be doing this anyway.

6)      Build your “Shelter in Place” box of supplies, It is also good as a “to go” box, probably 2 big boxes actually.

See all you have to do extra is stay out of the rain!   LOL Stay safe

Blogs and Support

See those blogs on my blog list, some of the best.

For some places like ENENEWS, SKF, Big Arnie, they are providing information that you cannot get on main stream media.   There is no charge for this hard work.
They can get advertising revenue from their websites, and this might be modest, but it helps, there are costs and time involved.

Consider visiting sponsors that catch your eye and have products you might use.   The blogs get financial benefit even if you don't purchase.   Like a TV ad, you don't have to buy, but the advertiser pays to get their message out.  I sure wish that more HEPA filters, radiation detectors, and the like started advertising on these sites, we can really use that stuff.

Uranium in Air

Conclusion – Fukushima really blew up, launching TONS of Uranium and Plutonium into the atmosphere.

HERE is all the supporting information

My max estimate is 195 TONS of Uranium, and it may certainly be less based on assumptions made, but the bottom line is that a huge amount of Uranium was exploded and aerosolized.

The quantity of tons aerosolized can be estimated by using official Government data, in particular Exhibit F-1 which is a 4/5/2011 publication of the EPA Radnet.    Their website is very complicated to navigate, and I can no longer find this PDF file on  their website, I have archived a copy to my computer.

Exh F-1 Shows 130 aCi/M3 of URANIUM in air, in Honolulu, with similar amount in Kauai, and even more in Guam.

The “Background” amount of Uranium in Air in Honolulu is around 5 aCi/M3,  thus making the measured Uranium 2600% higher than Background  .   See Table 9 from the EPA for this data.

Using a dispersion simulator, printout attached as Exh G-1, and with help of Google Earth (Exhibit G2 and G3) I calculate an affected area, which is about 2800 miles by 4900 miles.
Here is the simulator.

Now to make an estimate of affected volume of air, we need to select a height, I selected 8 miles.
The meat of the calculations are on Exhibit C-1, which is the next page

195 Tons Of Uranium!
Lets do a sensitivity analysis on the assumptions.   What if the affected area is 50% of the size the simulator shows, then use a multiplier of 0.5.

What if the height of the affected air is only more like 2 miles instead of 8, uses a multiplier of 0.25
195 tons *.5*.25= 24 Tons (Conservative Estimate)

Under the Conservative Estimate, and using .89% Plutonium per Table 1, this would be 433 pounds of Plutonium aerosolized.

Truth is not the friend of Nuke,
No wonder this stuff has to be covered up.

 LIE EXPOSED on Fluffpost
1 hour ago( 2:34 PM)
Actually Germany is busy replacing nuclear with coal and gas, murdering thousands annually from the air pollution. They get almost no energy from wind or solar.

 Refutation
That is a complete bald faced lie.
Germany gets 18 BILLLION kWH per year from renewable.

That is about 20% of their total demand, and this stuff is changing, accelerate rapidly in deployment with reduced costs.

I can do a residential size system that generates at 2.9 cent per kWH with no evacuation zone!

Germanys output would be equal to 3 plants at Daiichi, running continuous for a year (note that 4,5,6 were already shut down at time of quake)

This is a good start, the world is changing underneath your feet and you are stuck in your past paradigms.    Even smart people are fooled by what they have been comfortable in "learning" over a long period.

Plus chicks dig clean energy, and they hate nuke.

Comments to NRC - Send an Email

The Tag Line of NRC is

"Protecting People and the Environment"

Speak Your Mind!

The NRC has determined that it has confidence in using spent fuel pools for up to 60 years past the closing of a Nuke Plant.    Hmmmm.

They assume that

1) Society won't break down AND loss of knowledge (like there won't be a single CD that shows how dangerous spent fuel is).   Well what if society breaks down, but there is still a CD of knowledge left.   OK!  Their conditions are met, their assumptions were not wrong!
2) Terrorism doesn't need to be considered, it is outside of their scope.
3) They don't consider that "loss of institutional control" will ever happen because "the trend in modern society is toward more awareness and control over issues that pose a risk to humans and their environment."   Yeah Right!
4) They assume that the nuke plant operators will provide continuing financial support for their used fuel "regardless of cost",  can I puke now?
They won't even touch the 8000 lb Gorilla in the Room....The Carrington effect, a large sun storm that wipes out transformers and thus the world wide power grid.   As you may know, if a nuke plant loses power, it melts down, and I mean the reactor AND the fuel pools.

I summarized some of their comments from the PDF (invitation to comment), below, it will make your blood boil.
http://www.nrc.gov/waste/spent-fuel-storage/public-involvement.html

The comment period is 45 calendar days, from January 3 to February 17, 2012.
You may submit comments via email to WCOutreach@nrc.gov or through the U.S. mail:

Christine Pineda, Project Manager
Mailstop EBB-2B2
Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Washington, D.C. 20555-0001

These are some "highlights" from their proposal for an EIS and comments on same.

To prepare for this situation, the Commission updated the NRC’s Waste Confidence decision and rule in December 2010, stating that commercial spent fuel can be stored safely and without significant environmental impacts for at least 60 years beyond the licensed life of any commercial power reactor.

In September of 2011, the State of New York and several other petitioners filed a lawsuit
challenging the 2010 Waste Confidence rule and its related consideration of environmental
impacts. That case (Case No. 11-1045) is currently under consideration before the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the District Of Columbia Circuit.

The NRC, as part of its regulatory oversight,
continually assesses the need for additional safety or security measures. Loss of institutional
control and oversight of spent fuel storage facilities is not viewed as a credible scenario during
the period to be analyzed in the Waste Confidence EIS.

At a recent public meeting on its Waste Confidence update plans,14 the NRC received a request
that it include in the EIS a scenario that accounts for a collapse of society and loss of
government institutions, with a resulting lack of control over, and knowledge about, nuclear
plants and radioactive waste. The staff has considered this suggestion and, as explained
below, is proposing not to include this as one of the analyzed scenarios.

There are
no trends or evidence to suggest that society’s control of spent fuel and highly radioactive waste
will decline in the future or cease to be a government-regulated endeavor.
A NEPA analysis evaluates impacts that are “reasonably foreseeable.” For the Waste
Confidence EIS, this includes impacts associated with each of the four scenarios proposed in
this report. It may also include impacts from reasonably foreseeable scenarios that have not yet
been identified. The request to include a societal-collapse scenario would require an analysis of
the impacts of storage under a highly speculative scenario in which societal institutions,
knowledge, and controls no longer exist. However, as described above, the trend in modern
society is toward more awareness and control over issues that pose a risk to humans and their
environment. The staff concludes that a loss of societal structures and the associated
knowledge base is not reasonably foreseeable and, in fact, is highly unlikely to occur within the
200-year timeframe to be considered in the EIS.

The Waste Confidence EIS will also assume that the current structure of financial assurance for
spent fuel storage will continue to exist. The responsible entities will provide the necessary
financial resources for operating, securing, and maintaining storage facilities for extended
periods of time, regardless of cost.

In 2007, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that NEPA requires an examination
of the environmental impacts resulting from an act of terrorism against a dry cask storage
facility.15 However, outside of the Ninth Circuit, the Commission has adhered to its traditional
position that the environmental effects of a terrorist attack do not need to be considered in its
NEPA analyses.16 In 2009, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld the
Commission’s position that terrorist attacks are too far removed from the natural or expected
consequences of agency action to require an environmental impact analysis.17 Even so, and
without a definitive ruling that would resolve the split between the Circuit Courts on this issue,
this EIS will include a discussion of terrorism that the NRC believes satisfies the Ninth Circuit’s
holding in Mothers for Peace. The staff plans to consider the environmental impacts of
terrorism related to storage and transportation at a generic level.
