Radiation in the Ocean Food Chain, An Assessment of BioMagnification

A good report on bioaccumulation, I will summarize when I can, bottom line....causes increases of 1000's of times.

http://pbadupws.nrc.gov/docs/ML1016/ML101600579.pdf

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This chart is from Woods Hole.    I annotated it, since their description of different rates of plutonium absorption was verbal and very hard to track, seems intentionally so.

Then I tried to come up with actual radiation measurements in the water and the animal life.   The link below has decent water data, and some limited fish and ocean biota.

==============================
This report from Woods Hole Oceangraphic Institute is interesting to read.    Of course they always end with "Further research is needed", LOL as giving them more money is their prime objective.

Interesting though....rather then doing testing on Marine Life, they do a lot of testing on water and they do modeling of ocean flows, and it seems a prime objective is to calculate the "source term" of what came out of Fukushima.     This Source Term is an estimate of what and how many radionuclides left the buildings.    Is seems odd but I guess that is what scientists do....calculate things.

But since they are in the ocean on  a boat equipped  with advanced radiation analysis equipment, and the ability to catch fish.     It sure seems like my prime focus would be to test the fish! And the bait crops.

--------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.pnas.org/content/109/16/5984.full#F1

The above is the main article.     You need to do quite a bit of bouncing around to get to the meat of that data.

Chart below  shows that contaminated water does not mix vertically much.     The radiation stays in the top 300 feet primarily.    It stays where 95% of the fish and critters stay.   It stays where it can do the most damage.

Finally, the bogeyman that no one wishes to speak of.    Strontium.    Strontium goes into bones and becomes a permanent part of the food chain.

This article states that the Strontium can be present in same levels or more, than the Cesium.

Radiostrontium in the western North Pacific: characteristics, behavior, and the Fukushima impact.

Abstract

The impact of the Fukushima-derived radiostrontium ((90)Sr and (89)Sr) on the western North Pacific Ocean has not been well established, although (90)Sr concentrations recorded in surface seawater offshore of the damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant were in some areas comparable to or even higher than (as those in December 2011 with 400 kBq m(-3)(90)Sr) the (137)Cs levels. The total amount of (90)Sr released to the marine environment in the form of highly radioactive wastewater could reach about 1 PBq. Long-term series (1960-2010) of (90)Sr concentration measurements in subtropical surface waters of the western North Pacific indicated that its concentration has been decreasing gradually with a half-life of 14 y. The pre-Fukushima (90)Sr levels in surface waters, including coastal waters near Fukushima, were estimated to be 1 Bq m(-3). To better assess the impact of about 4-5 orders of magnitude increased radiostrontium levels on the marine environment, more detail measurements in seawater and biota of the western North Pacific are required.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also know this from our work on estimating the overall source term of all the nuke waste at Fukushima.     The strontium is about equal to the cesium.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Finally a link to some prior work I had done on the bioaccumulation, aka biomagnification on sea life in Alaska.    Alaska was hit particularly hard by the Fukushima fallout, in fact, Fukushima increased the radiation in sea life the same way a direct nuclear bomb test did at point blank range.

Wrap your head around that.

From Alaska 2011 June

The soil and lichens have VERY high radioactivity.   6000 Bq /kG!    30 Bq/kG is dangerous to animals and above 100 Bq/kG said animals cannot be sold.

Here is the full report you can download.   This is an extensive and quite scientific bio-assay of the Alaska waters in June 2011.     They don't plan on going back until 2016.

So this survey is only 3 months after Fukushima, the opportutnity to bio-accumulate didn't have much time.      3.5 years later, results would be interesting

For your reference pico is 10E-12, or one trillionth
pCi is one trillionth of a Curie
A Curie is a relatively large amount of radiation
One Curie = 3.7E10 Bq

And Majia weighs in with some meaty links, including an article by her on bio accumulation

The nuclear complex has known since 1953 that radionuclides – such as Strontium-90, pose irreparable risks to the biosphere.
Read about Project Sunshine
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2015/02/project-sunshine-and-failed-paradigm-of.html
After completion of Project Sunshine (which followed Project Grabriel) the AEC commissioned many studies on bioaccumulation in the environment, which I review here:
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2014/11/bioaccumulation-cesium-is-one-among.html
A separate study funded by the Rockefellers – BEAR – was published in condensed form in 1956. The genetics subcommittee warned that radiation induces heritable mutations that are transmitted across generations, with potentially devastating long-term impacts to the human genome:
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/systematic-study-in-first-bear-study-on.html#comment-form
The nuclear complex has known that radionuclides poison life and yet the complex took little-to-no-action to stop the growing contamination of planet Earth, upon which we all depend.
The nuclear complex is leading us toward our extinction. But first we get to watch the animals we love die from our greed, corruption, and denial.

There, fixed the United States, hope this isn't a Kennedy Moment.

Agreed, we need to cut the Fed Big Gov back to it's only legal duties AS LISTED CLEARLY in the constitution.    I would also modify the constitution to give them two additional duties, and that would be for management Recreation through existing national parks.  And for construction and then oversight of a National Energy Grid and storage system.

These national park Fed Management area would only be the parks which spanned across 2 states or more.   Any existing parks totally within 1 state would become State property and managed by the State under the caveat of it would have to remain a park and could not be "sold off" or rented, however sustainable lumber harvesting and hunting/fishing would be allowed.

Because reducing the Fed Gov down to mandated duties only would reduce the size of Fed by 85%, those 85% would according to their ability become the designers, builders and operators of new system of nationwide super cooled (no resistance no power loss) interconnections that provide diversity of power sources to aid high levels of renewable energy onto the grid.    It would also include storage such as pumped hydro, air pressurized salt caves, battery farms, and other technologies TBD.    It would also include solar farms.   Wind would not be overly emphasized in new construction, only in the best of the best areas, and none in the ocean or great Lakes.

For those without applicable skills, they would just have to get another job.   Because of the reduction in government size, the economy would have a burden of $800B a year lifted from its shoulders, and the resulting velocity of useful money would result in myriad other growth industries.    Those unable to find a job would be given up to 12 months of "unemployment" which would be roughly 2/3 of their prior wages, but not benefits.     However, this would not just be unemployment, it would consist of 24 hours a week of real work in community service, such as enhancing our Federal and State parks, and rebuilding our nations aging infrastructure.

Some of these jobs would be with private companies who would get these employees at "bought down rates", and if they were full time jobs (now 44 hours per week) the employer would pay 50% and the Small Fed would pay 50% and that would last for a period of 2 years.    The reality is that most of these federal workers have no idea what actual productive work is, and many just won't cut it in a real workforce.    1 to 2 years would give them a chance to adjust to actual work, or to adjust to a lessened lifestyle.    After 2 years, the 50/50 private employer split would reduce to 75/25 for the next year.    This would start putting the burden squarely on the real companies, with an obvious incentive to get rid of the dead wood, i.e. those who just couldn't adapt to real productive work.

The big kicker, all those Feds that lost their Fed jobs....sorry you lose ALL your pension benefits of any kind, and you get an allocation into social security.    Is it fair?   Not really, but we need to shed the burden of overly large promises that have already been made.   These Fed workers have lived on the shoulders of hard working citizens, some for decades, it 's time to share the pain.

There fixed it.

--------------------------------------------------
And there is plenty of Fat at the State and City levels too.     But we can't fix everything all at once.    The plan above for the Feds is already a new paradigm.     But a simply law shall be required to be adopted by all States, and that shall also rule over the cities in that state, and/or county governments when such exist.

The bombshell: No Federal, State, County, or City government worker shall be paid more than an equivalent work task in the private sector in that area.    The pay transition to equality shall occur completely withing 2 years, with a 50% move in the first year.
------------------------------------------------------
Turns out this is trickier than I thought, a Zerohedge reader listed the following also

10) Audit the Fed Completely in all it's programs
9) End the FED
8) Get Apology from Each Fed President, Janet Yellen, Ben Bernanke, and Alan Greenspan
7) Replace all of Congress with Farmers
6) Place Huge Limits on Monsanto Business Practices, Force national GMO Labeling, Conduct Long term Studies on All GMO Products
5) Break up all TBTF Wall Street Banks, Reinstate Glass-Steagal, Pass a law against Bailing out Wall Street Banks and any Bank with Capitalization of over $400 Million Dollars
4) End QE
3) End ZIRP/LIRP, let the market find Interest Rates between 2% - 10% (We can't afford rates near 8% already)
1) Freeze Federal Budget Ceiling at Current Level, Begin Process of Cutting Contracts, Offices, Agencies, DHS, CIA, NSA... cut NSA Domestic Spying, End the Patriot Act, Censor George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and their Attorney Generals... Close down 50% of Foreign Military Operations/Camps... Close Southern Border... Start Public Banks in each State so that Lending to People can become Important Again... Find a National Ceiling on Credit Cards for Individuals... Freeze State College Tuition ... Establish Limits on Civil Lawsuit Liabilities & pair this with Heavy Enforcement and Penalties on businesses that Damage people and incur Civil Suits that they Lose... Put a limit on the Money Spent by Giant Wealthy Entities in Civil Court against middle class or poor Americans... Figure out how to make People more important than Corporate Interests without it costing government money or putting businesses out of business... Figure out how to change the health Care system so that Doctors get the profits not Insurance or Huge Health Corporations.

Anti Nuclear Editorial in the New York Times

Indeed, we do a lot of preaching to the choir in the anti nuke business.

We need to do more of effective communication to the masses.    We need a critical mass to TIPP it good.

This from the NY Times.   Short and on point.

To the Editor:
The nuclear industry is bamboozling the Environmental Protection Agency into its agenda of promoting nuclear power as “clean” (“E.P.A. Wrestles With Role of Nuclear Plants in Carbon Emission Rules,” Business Day, Dec. 26). It is no secret that every nuclear power plant regularly emits low-level radiation into the environment. Why focus only on carbon emissions while ignoring iodine-129, plutonium-239, cesium-135 and other lethal radionuclides?
The nuclear industry wants us to focus narrowly on the fission process and to ignore the footprint of mining, milling, enrichment, processing and storing of nuclear fuel.
It also wants us to ignore the elephant in the room: its inability to rid the planet of high-level nuclear waste that accumulates every hour that any nuclear power plant is operating. The latest plan of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in effect to turn every nuclear power plant in the country into a nuclear waste dump is shocking indeed.
The bottom line is very simple: Nuclear power is the most expensive, the most unreliable, the most dangerous and the most environmentally damaging of all forms of energy production.

More than bamboozling, this lady make a good cause for structured Fraud
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/01/02/climate-and-truth-a-tale-of-immorality/

Is CO2 and Ocean Acidification also part of the pHraud (Fraud) on Global Warming?

I got going on Global Warming a while back, after analyzing the real data.    Bottom line, Global warming has paused for 18 years.

Then the climate alarmists indicate that the heat is just going into all the place that we haven't been measuring.

Ocean surface temperatures are pretty well know from satelitte, and Ocean temps at depth are pretty well known by floating buoys, although the coverage in geographical area is not that great.

Here is original stuff by Nukepro....chart of combined ocean temperatures and land temperatures, using exact NOAA data.     Hmmmm.....looks like that temperature has stalled out also.

Finally, some of the "science" on other key legs that CO2 and climate change stand on, i.e. ocean pH aka Ocean Acidification seem to be ignoring huge volumes of data and focus only on recent and limited measurements.   Some of this looks like intentional fraud, just like the climate gate admissions.

The rabbit hole runs deep, and we can't draw conclusions yet.

I have obtained a 2.5 million line of pH data from NOAA, the file is 95MB, I tried to share it through BOX but the upload failed, I may try again.     My Excel program chokes at about 1,060,000 lines, so I had to develop some new technology to handle the data and plot it.

That is where I am at now.

Some of you other citizen scientists may want to follow in my footsteps and verify my findings whatever they might be.   I will post data and programs.

I am using a new program called "R" and an addon GUI enhancement to R.    Looks like this learning curve will be like learning a computer language in a lite way.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But no time now, need to finish the week, got a ton of solar work I have to get designs and paperwork done on.    Also marketing for solar maintenance which keeps systems in top shape.

13 years ago when I started my own design/build company, I found that 90% of existing systems had some big problem that had developed and was hindering performance.    These are systems that hadn't been looked at by anyone for 5 years or a decade.   Kind of like running a car for 10 years and expecting to never have to do preventive maintenance, or a repair.   Just not realistic.

People are wising up, and even the local utility is sending out 100,000 reminders for people to service their equipment.   That is making a huge difference in system performance, which helps everyone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some things to chew on---

Wait, I thought the ocean was warming....this says its slightly cooling

Funny, the south oceans are warming, whilst their land is cooling (known fact)

They pretty much stopped taking data on ocean pH, so the whole recent push for Cap and Trade and other ways to transfer wealth are based primarily on Global Warming and dropping pH, but they stopped taking the pH data, and the Global Warming data does NOT show Global Warming
Most of the pH data was taken around Japan and China areas, that could really skew the data if there was something "funny" going on over there.

You can see the rabbit hole runs deep.

Yes. stock. Wikipedia has some info on that.
In the modern era, emissions to the atmosphere from volcanoes are only about 1% of emissions from human sources.[57][58][59]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas
Onto got me thinking about the methane gas cloud over New Mexico, and Texas, too, I've read. It covers a 2500 sq. mi. area.
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/04/leaking-methane-gas-plume-us
Again from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas
Methane has a number of indirect effects in addition to forming CO
2. Firstly, the main chemical which destroys methane in the atmosphere is the hydroxyl radical (OH). Methane reacts with OH and so more methane means that the concentration of OH goes down. Effectively, methane increases its own atmospheric lifetime and therefore its overall radiative effect. The second effect is that the oxidation of methane can produce ozone. Thirdly, as well as making CO
2 the oxidation of methane produces water; this is a major source of water vapor in the stratosphere which is otherwise very dry. CO and NMVOC also produce CO
2 when they are oxidized. They remove OH from the atmosphere and this leads to higher concentrations of methane. The surprising effect of this is that the global warming potential of CO is three times that of CO2
Since we are just now finding the Methane over New Mexico, we may want to reconsider how CO2 is actually getting into the environment. Peace

Information for future CO2 data research

ISeePinkClouds ISeePinkClouds
Yes. That is to say, Methane may be playing a bigger role than previously thought. Since Methane is a by-product of oil production, in that all over the world, as in New Mexico and Texas, the gas is released at the well head into the atmosphere as the oil is pumped into tanks. This is why in oil producing areas the smell of gas is always in the air. This problem has been going on for a very long time, it appears to be an important consideration, and is yet to be addressed.
I followed your and the doctors discussion yesterday. Though I have studied and researched the theory of global warming, and generally tend to believe that it is occurring to a degree, and obvious in some locations on the Earth, in light of the threat we are facing from Nuclear Radiation Contamination of the Planet, it is hard to find the time to discuss it in depth. I am mostly concerned that Governments have hijacked the theory in order to tax, enslave, and generally, shorten our lives. I do not want to contribute to that in any way. Peace

Polar Vortek Plunge, Proof that Global Warming is a Farce!

New Proof that people prefers bikinis over 1) Global Warming, 2) Radiation, 3) Asteroids, who'd of thunk it?
Add caption

The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual event in Milwaukee, it takes place at Bradford Beach, with the main Plunge at around 12:00 Noon.

None of my friends wanted to participate or be support crew, so we decided to take the dogs and check it out, just to do something a little different on New Years.     There was a least 1000 people there, and we got there right before noon and had to park almost 2 miles away.

It was around 20 degrees and with a pretty stiff wind.    This first photo just shows that even 20 degree weather doesn't stop Wisconsin people from enjoying their sports.

A couple girls enjoying the day on the beach....Hey why does that guy have a drysuit on?

You have to be freakin' kidding me!
Here is a great sequence showing a family going for the full on Plunge!   Launching from Ice!

Hana says hey that water looks great, I can handle it!

We didn't let the dogs go in....our car was 2 miles away, it was so packed for this event.  It was easier to park at the Banzai Pipeline Triple Crown of Surfing, no joke.     They would have been frozen dog hair!

This is one of the fire rescue guys in drysuit, he came up to us to talk about German Shepherds

Every one was super friendly and everyone loved the Shepherds

Uh, the plunge is over ....oh wait, maybe they are just getting ready, no wet hair!
Oh ya, make sure to check those text messages while you are in your swim suit at the beach, in January! LOL
 Plunge time!
All the rules fly out the book....open fires, open alcohol, dogs not just allowed but respected on the beach.....

Its like a different universe, the laws of physics and heat no longer apply!

Uh, is being totally red a good thing, I mean it is not exactly like a tan, lol
This guy is just wacky, he plunged 10 minutes ago and is still walking around like this

And the sea ice question, that is one I need to wrap my head around.   If I look at the charts of sea ice, and analyze with a fractal movement chartist view (I consider myself an expert at Technical Charting, esp. in relation to stock prices, hence my name, stock) it seems that we hit a blowoff bottom with a double spike down, and that would imply the bottom is in, ice will increase.

Hanford, A Nuclear and Radiation Travesty, a National Horror

A reader at nukepro asked, what is leaking out of Hanford.

So I crowd sourced a reply.     See links below.

We know that at Hanford they want to do even less than what they are doing.     We know that there are 900% more babies being born without brains or skulls in the area.

We know that tanks are leaking and are far past their design life.

Also they have miles of buried trenches of steel barrels that are now rusted through.

Here are some links, I would like to run Hanford to ground, but am working on some new global warming data analysis.

Hanford babies with no brains or small heads can be linked to radiation
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pu...

Microcephaly is a malformation associated with in utero exposed atomic bomb survivors and can be induced in mice by fetal exposure to ionizing radiation (IR). The pathogenesis of IR-induced microcephaly, however, has not been fully understood. Our analyses of high-coverage expression profiling (HiCEP) demonstrated that the abnormal spindle-like microcephaly associated gene (ASPM) was down-regulated in irradiated human diploid fibroblasts. ASPM was recently reported as the causative gene for MCPH-5, the most common type of congenital microcephaly in humans. Here, we show that the expression of the Aspm gene was significantly reduced by IR in various human and murine cells. Additionally, Aspm was found downregulated in the irradiated fetal mouse brain, particularly in the ventricular zones. A similar suppression was observed in the irradiated neurosphere cultures. This is the first report suggesting that the suppression of Aspm by IR could be the initial molecular target leading to the future microcephaly formation.
